China Postpones Implementation of National Terrestrial DTV Standard
August 11, 2007
As a follow-up to an Asia Express dated September 5, 2006, China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) confirmed that the formal implementation of China's national terrestrial DTV (Digital Television) transmission standard was delayed from the original planned date of August 1, 2007. Integrating Tsinghua University's DMB-T (Digital Multimedia Broadcast-Terrestrial) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University's ADTB-T (Advanced Digital Television Broadcast-Terrestrial) standards, the new standard is known as GB20600-2006. However, due to the lack of compatible equipment and related industrialization, implementation of the standard is expected to be a few more months in the coming, according to Chinese-language Sina News.
